Luke Duncan on the rise of antibiotic resistant bacteria

I would say I’m privileged to
work in the LIMS building It’s relatively new and it’s
got a lot of facilities that I
need I’ve got a good supervisor who
I get along with And I really like the open
working spaces The inspiration behind my
research is the rise of
antibiotic resistant bacteria So the antibiotics we’re
currently using today that
we’ve relied on for so long are becoming less and less
effective Because bacteria are finding
ways to survive courses of
treatments So we really need a new class
of antibiotics that works in a
way that bacteria haven’t been exposed to before I think the driving force is
probably knowing that if I’m
successful Then it can really have a real
world application If we’re successful, we can make
eventually a drug that will
save lives
